The location in Nanshan District is actually pretty brilliant if you’re doing business in the tech corridor or want easy access to both the city center and Hong Kong. Qianhai Road puts you right in the heart of Shenzhen’s financial district, and I found myself walking to several meetings without needing a taxi. The area has that modern Chinese city energy — lots of gleaming towers and decent restaurants within a few blocks. Couples seem to particularly love it here (the hotel mentioned an 8.2 rating from pairs), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about those harbor views, especially at sunset.

The Rooms

The accommodations lean toward the residential side, which makes sense given the “& Residences” part of the name. My room felt more like a well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel room, with a proper workspace and enough storage that I could actually unpack for my week-long stay. The luxury touches are there — quality linens, marble bathroom, that sort of thing — but it’s the practical elements that impressed me more. Good blackout curtains (essential in a city that never sleeps), reliable WiFi, and honestly, one of the better shower experiences I’ve had in a business hotel.

Breakfast here is where this hotel really shows its international credentials. The buffet spreads across Continental, Asian, American, and vegetarian options — I mean, you could eat something completely different every morning for a week. The congee was particularly good, and they actually know how to make proper coffee, which isn’t always a given. There’s parking available, which might not sound exciting but trust me, if you’re driving in Shenzhen, you’ll appreciate having a guaranteed spot. The fitness center and pool area maintain that luxury standard throughout, though I spent most of my downtime just enjoying the city views from the upper floors.

What sets this DoubleTree apart is how it balances luxury with genuine functionality — it’s clearly designed for people who need to get things done, whether that’s business or exploring the city. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you experience how smoothly everything operates, from housekeeping to concierge services.   There was a pretty big variety of food for breakfast. Fruits were fresh and sweet! And there was plenty to choose from; if you preferred a more Chinese breakfast there were those options too. The staff were friendly and helpful. And as any of you who have stayed in a DoubleTree hotel before may know, the cookies given at the reception when you check-in were absolutely delightful as always. I've been dreaming about the cookies and I think I'm going to have to find a recipe for it….
